How to make soap nut juice.
Soap Nut Juice 50 grams of used, but not completely exhausted, soap nut shells will make approximately 1 litre of Soap Nut Juice, which can be used for pretty much any cleaning you need to do around the home, including surfaces, the floor, bath, windows, car etc. Add it to water like you would any other detergent. How to make a soapnut infusion Pour just over 1 litre of water in a large cooking pot, add some cracked soapnuts (around 50g but you don't need to be precise), cover and simmer for approximately five minutes. The boiling process extracts the saponin from the nut shells and combines with the water. Let the infusion cool and you can use it immediately, or you could let it steep as long as overnight to strengthen the solution. Depending on the purpose and personal preference you can vary the concentration of the infusion by changing the soapnut water ratio. Play around with it and note down your preference. Soap nut juice can be used for many purposes. Laundry (approx. 3 tablespoons full per laundry load); In your dishwasher (approx. same amount & you can use vinegar instead of rinse aid); Your floors ; Bathroom ; Instead of shampoo ; Use as window cleaner together with vinegar (2 tablespoons Soap Nut Juice to 3 tablespoons vinegar). When you think you've extracted all the saponin, throw the Soap Nuts in the blender with a bit of water and you'll have a wonderful 'liquid' soap for the hand basin. Leave the shells in to get the exfoliating effect after blending - add essential oils if you wish. More information can be found on the Ethics Trading soap nut page. I use soap nut juice on floors, the car, windows and household surfaces and I add lavender and tea tree for an antibacterial action. But I don't tend to use it on the people here! From personal experience it works fine on floors, windows, the car etc and the house doesn't smell of bleach and chemical cleaners - which make me sneeze - but it still smells fresh and clean.
